We draw builder friendly construction plans of scale models of legacy railroad and mining equipment using the AutoCAD 2007 drawing program. Each drawing package contains easy to manage "B" sized sheets (11" x 17"). A minimum of two views are drawn of all fully detailed and dimensioned parts and components that are necessary for the builder to reproduce the finished model shown in the model's photograph. Whether displayed on a fireplace mantle, a shelf, a desk, on a coffee table or in a glass display case, these fascinating models always attract attention and delight the observer. Your model will be an authentic museum quality treasure.
Sheffield's No.1 Standard Gauge Section Maintenance Car
The museum quality railroad models built from our drawings are typically 1/5 and 1/8 scale and reside on 4.75", 7.5" or 12" gauge display track. Our mining ore car models are 1/5 scale and reside on 3.6" or 4.75" track. To ensure drawing accuracy, we build a prototype model using our drawing package before we offer the drawings for sale to the builder. All our models are fully functional and contain no plastic - metal and wood only. We finish all wooden components with WATCO Danish Oil (natural). When the model is after a railroad or mine car that operated on rails, a sheet in the drawing package will show the builder how to construct the model's display track and where to buy the extruded rail and spikes. The drawings can be easily re-scaled to build a full-sized, fully functional replica of the equipment or a smaller version of the model that would operate or display on the popular model railroading track gauges.

In addition to detailed views and dimensions of all component parts, when appropriate, a front view, side view and a top view are provided with all dimensions necessary for the builder to reproduce a museum quality model. Each drawing package is generously sprinkled with photos of the model's components and assemblies.

A Bill-of-Materials (BOM) identifying the fasteners and materials to be used for each component, the material's raw dimensions and its suggested procurement source is provided in each drawing package. We specify off-the-shelf (modified) Boston gears so the modeler doesn't require the specialized skill or tooling necessary to cut gears.

Both wood and metal working skills and equipment are useful when building these museum quality models. We recommend that the builder possess  a Milling machine and a Metal Lathe (or a combination Mill/Lathe) with a minimum of 4" swing over the bed. Assorted metal working hand tools also come in handy.

As evidenced by the accompanying photographs, each finished model is a genuine work of art and an interesting conversation piece. We use the flatbed Leslie Salt Company's Maintenance-of-Way model to display everything from fine mineral specimens and coins to knickknacks. We fill the ore car models with ore samples and place the cars on display tracks built from our drawings. My office desk is loaded with our models and they never fail to attract attention and praise.

We are pleased to provide professionally drawn construction plans to those who want to build and enjoy museum quality scale models of legacy railroad and mining equipment.
